Tobia made his debut as solo cellist at 11 years. Since then he performed in major italian cities and in Europe including Amsterdam, Salzburg, Strasburg, Cologne, Mannheim, Graz, Bratislava, Madrid and Barcelona. Concert venues included prestigious halls and theaters such as Mozarteum Saal in Salzburg, Sala Verdi in Milan, Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, Palau de la Música in Barcelona, Mannheim Rittersaal, Heidelberg Alte Aula Universität, Trier Theater, Aldeburgh Jubelee Hall, Philharmonic Hall of Timişoara and Jaşi, A. B. Michelangeli Hall of Bolzano and Ponchielli Theater of Cremona among others.
At the age of 18 he was selected to participate at the Kronberg Cello Festival receiving master lessons from M. Rostropovich.
In addition to his career as a soloist, Tobia has developed an intense interest in chamber music collaborating with artist such as S. Accardo, R. Nodel, B. Giuranna, Y. Gandelsman, E. Dindo, R. Filippini, M. Flaksman, E. Brunner, R. Plano, R. Zadra and A. Specchi.
In 2006, in the International Chamber Music Institute of Madrid, he formed the Trio Concordiae together with Asya Nebolsina (piano) and Savva Fatkulin (violin). Since then the Trio, that received several prizes in both national and international competitions, is developing an intense concert activity in Spain and abroad. In 2014 the Trio has been invited as group in Residence at the “Aldeburgh Music Residencies” in England and will debut in China in the prestigious Shenzhen Concert Hall.
His orchestral experience includes collaborations with the “Orchestra da Camera Italiana”, “I Solisti di Pavia”, Streicher Akademie Bozen”, “Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León” and, as principal cellist, with the “Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma” and with the Orquesta Sinfónica y de Cámara de la Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía under the baton of Z. Metha, S. Bychkov, V. Ashkenazy, R. Frühbeck de Burgos, V. Petrenko and D. Afkham among others.
From 2009 he is working as cello and chamber music teacher at the American School of Madrid. In this Center, which reserves a broad space to musical education, he teaches young students from all over the world.
In summer 2012 he was cello teacher, at the Intercultural Musical Festival “Via dei Concerti” that brings together young musicians from Colombia, Turchia, Hungary, Spain and Italy.
In april 2014 he has been invited as member of the jury at the V Chamber Music Competition of Ávila.
In summer 2014 he will participate, as cello teacher, at the International Music Class project of Campli (Italy) together with significant artists of the international music scene.
Born in Trento (Italy) in 1979, Tobia obtained his degree in cello with the highest scores and honors under the guidance of L. Corbolini in the Trento Conservatory. In addition, Tobia went on to receive the highest degree with honors at the Salamanca Conservatory (Spain). He completed his studies at the Hochschule für Musik Mannheim with M. Flaksman, at the Stauffer Academy of Cremona with R. Filippini and at the Pavia Cello Academy with E. Dindo.
Recording include a CD with works by J.S. Bach and N. Paganini for Sarx Records.
